About Us
A Church That Gathers and Goes
At City Baptist, our faith doesn’t just live in a building. It moves through the streets of Launceston, into homes, gardens, dinner tables, and conversations. While we gather on Sunday mornings to worship and celebrate together, so much of who we are happens during the week through our City Seed initiatives.
We’re a church that welcomes everyone—especially those who’ve felt left out, uncertain, or on the edges. Whether you’re full of faith, full of questions, or somewhere in between, you’re welcome here.
Following Jesus to the Margins
Our heart is to follow the way of Jesus with compassion, creativity, and courage. That means being present with those on the margins: people experiencing homelessness, those who’ve walked away from church but not from faith, artists, survivors, seekers, new Tasmanians, and anyone looking for a place to belong.
We want to be a church that listens well, loves deeply, and lives out the good news in everyday ways.
Faith That Moves and Grows
We’re exploring what it means to be church in today’s world—growing something new while honouring the roots of our faith.
This looks like:
Speaking up for the voiceless, the environment, and peace
Encouraging people to think, live, and pray in light of God’s kingdom
Creating spaces for creativity, imagination, and renewal
Building intergenerational friendships and community
Through City Seed, our practical ministry hub, we sow seeds of faith, justice, hope, and love across the city. This includes:
Hospitality gatherings and Young Adult Dinners
Street Ministry
Community Garden
Drop-in Centre
Women’s Collective
Refugee support and local partnerships

No matter who you are or where you’ve come from, you’re welcome here. We’re creating a space where everyone, especially those who feel on the edges, can feel at home, relax, and belong.

We believe following Jesus means caring for people and the Earth. That’s why we speak up for justice, stand with the vulnerable, and take action for a healthier, fairer world.

We love being a church where kids, teens, young adults, and older generations all gather, learn from each other, and grow together.

Faith isn’t just for Sundays. We want our everyday lives to reflect the good news of Jesus, in how we love, serve, speak up, and show up across our city. City Seed helps us do that in creative and practical ways.

Our heart beats for those who often get overlooked. The lonely, the hurting, the ones who’ve walked away from church but not from God. We believe Jesus is already at work in those places, and we want to be there too.
City Baptist Church is a member church of Tasmanian Baptists and Australian Baptist Ministries.
We are developing closer relationships with the other Baptist Churches in the Launceston region and across the state.
